PROJECT OVERVIEW:
A Bird in The Hand (beloved things) is a community visual project created by the Kansas City Jewish Museum of Contemporary Art (KCJMCA) on the occasion of the solo exhibition Adriane Herman: Pick Me Up (a few things) at the Epsten Gallery at Village Shalom ( January 23 ‐ March 6, 2011). The purpose of this project is to provide a thoughtful context in which participants may express their relationship to items they love — even something taken for granted or seemingly insignificant that you love to collect, own, consume, believe in, celebrate, share, discard, or simply wish to share regarding its role within our world.

PARTICIPATION DETAILS:
The initial round of this curated project is open to all participants. Images should depict your object in your hands. (You may need to have someone photograph you holding the object.) Documentation should offer up these items for our examination and consideration. The image should be accompanied by a brief description (50 words or less) of the object and its significance or meaningfulness to you. The image and text will be published on KCJMA’s website during the run of Adriane Herman’s exhibition at the Epsten Gallery. (Pending resources, this online project may also be published as a book at a later date.)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSIONS:
Submit photo‐documentation in the form of a digital image; jpeg or Lff; 300 dpi; no smaller than 8x10 inches. Be sure to label your image with your last then first name. If you submit more than one image, please number them and include a corresponding list describing each (LastFirst01.jpeg / LastFirst02.jpeg etc.) You may submit up to three images for consideration, however only one image may be published.

The accompanying written statement may be in the form of a Word document or in the body of an email, and it should describe your reason for selecting the object depicted and its relationship to you. Please include your contact information and mailing list should we need to correspond with additional questions, requests, etc. A bio/resume is welcome, although not necessary as it will not be published. Please indicate whether you wish to be identified or remain anonymous.

Note: All material submiaed becomes the property of KCJMCA and delivery of materials serves as authorization of consent from the sender for KCJMCA to publish the information as it sees fit. KCJMCA reserves the right to edit or deny the publishing of any information submitted.
